The Museum has recently finished its Parking Lot renovation project. This project was necessary for several reasons, chief among them being the upcoming Glidden Tour. The newly expanded parking area allows for greater ease in parking, a larger number of vehicles parked at any given time, and alleviates some severe drainage issues from the past. This newly expanded addition is also a first step toward making the Museum bigger and better!
The previous parking was large enough for only a few vehicles. Because of the angle of slope of the landscaping the grassy area between the parking lot and Route 22 would become unusable after an average rain shower.
The new lot allows for a greater number of cars and greater ease in parking. In addition to the re-grading of the area (to allow for better drainage) the Museum also installed "Parking Slates" under the grass to provide support for vehicles parked in this area regardless of the weather conditions.
This is an example of what would happen to the area prior to this project.
Swigart Museum personnel contributed a great deal of labor and man hours in making sure this project was completely quickly and with minimal impact to Members and visitors. To date $15,000 has been raised to cover the contractor expenses, but much more is needed. If you would like to contribute to this project financially and help us in our efforts to make the Museum a better experience for all, we would appreciate your monetary contribution.
